Battle Angel Live Action Movie

Battle Angel MovieWe may well enjoy a movie adaptation of Battle Angel Alita, Yukito Kishiro's popular manga series, on the big screen in a not too distant future. James Cameron bought indeed the film rights to Battle Angel and definitely intends to make a movie:

"We're not that far down the line. We have a very good script and we've done a lot of production design. We've done about a year of production design and we've put together an art reel that shows the arc of the film. It's pretty much just add water and we're ready to go."

"The mixture of live-action and CG is a little trickier in 3-D than it is 2-D. Now we see it's good to have done Avatar first before Battle Angel, because the tricky scenes are where you're blending live-action photography, stereoscopic photography and CG.
Shooting live stuff in 3-D and then adding CG characters and landscapes beyond that, that's a little tricky"
Director James Cameron

From what he's saying it sounds like James Cameron want to create some hyper-realistic CGI character (the cyborg Alita) that he would insert in live footage (hybrid CGI/live).

Plot:
"In the 26th century, a female cyborg is rescued from the scrapheap by a scientist."

I've watched the Battle Angle anime series and I've been hooked from the start by its dystopian universe. So I'm quite glad to hear that James Cameron wants to make a live action battle Angel movie. Unfortunately he didn't tell when they would actually start to film, and knowing James Cameron's genial obsession for details it may still take a few years before anything really happen... Besides he's probably going to work on Avatar 2 first... So even if IMDb is listing the movie Battle Angel for a 2011 release, I doubt it will be released that soon...

Anyway, I'll wait for the live action Battle Angel movie!
